Adopting a friend

PAWS adopts adult dogs and cats, as well as puppies and kittens, into appropriate, adoptive homes.
Senior Cat Promotion
Now through December 31st any cat over the age of 6 years of age and all who are adults residing at the shelter for a year or over, may be adopted for $30.00.
Adult Cats (1 yr and older and residents under a year) : $50.00
Kittens: $50.00
Dogs and Puppies:$130.00
Senior Dogs (over 7yrs): over 7 yrs old: $85.00

For all animals, the adoption fee includes:

1. Check-up within fourteen days.
2. Basic vaccinations appropriate to the animals age.
3. Worm check and first worming, if needed.
4. Spay or neuter.
5. AVID Microchip or 24 hour Petwatch Chip
6. Rabies vaccination
7. Five pound bag of Hill's Science Diet Food.
8. One time microchip registration

For cats the fee includes a feline leukemia test, FIV test, cat carrier, a collar and ID tag.

For dogs the fee also includes a heartworm test, collar, leash, ID tag.

Potential adopters will be interviewed and must provide current identification and proof of residence. PAWS reserves the right to refuse any adoption. All adoptions are restricted to a fifty mile radius of the shelter. All family members must be present before an adoption takes place.

The adoption fee is payable by cash, check, Visa or Mastercard at the time of adoption.

SUSPECTED ANIMAL ABUSE/NEGLECT
If you have reason to believe that an animal is suffering any type of abuse or neglect please call the shelters listed below with any information that you may have, including the address of the home where the neglect is taking place. You can do this without leaving your name, remember, the animals count on YOU to help them as they have no voice to speak. If you suspect animal abuse or neglect is happening near you please call the shelter with any information or a shelter near where you live...

TIPS FOR FINDING LOST PETS
Contact Animal Agencies

Immediately telephone all humane societies, animal control agencies and vet's in your area to file a lost pet report. Animals often stray farther from home than most owners believe. You may also contact your police department. Please be sure to visit your local shelter in person every 24 hours.

Search Your Neighborhood

Walk and/or drive through your neighborhood several times every day. Early morning and sunset are prime time frames for finding lost pets. Speak with neighbors, postal carriers, garbage collectors, etc and ask that they keep an eye out for your pet.

Advertise!!

Post flyers at all public places such as grocery stores, churches, etc. Place an ad in the classified section of your local newspaper. Offer a reward. Caution: To avoid pet-recovery scams, leave out your animals identifying characteristics so you can verify the honesty of the caller who claims to have found your pet.

Don't Give Up!!

Keep searching even when you have little hope left. Animals who have been lost for weeks, months and even years have been reunited with their owners.

The Next Time........

Protect your pet from getting lost again. Always keep a collar and ID tag on your pet. An ID tag is a lost animal's ticket home. Get your pet microchipped and have recent photo's at hand.

Who We Are

The PAWS Animal shelter is located at 8301 West 191st Street in Tinley Park, Illinois. The shelter has been operating at this location since July of 1998. (The shelter has operated at other locations for over 25 years). An average of 30 cats and 20 dogs can be housed at the shelter. Every animal admitted to the shelter receives medical care, food, and a warm safe environment. In addition to providing a haven for lost or unwanted pets, PAWS works with the community through several other programs.

PAWS is very committed to humane education. We work with local schools to teach children basic animal care, how to approach animals, and the dangers of approaching injured animals. If you are interested in this program please contact Sue Kapala at the shelter during open hours.

PAWS also works with local nursing homes through our Pet Therapy program. Both the animals and the residents benefit from this program. If you are unable to give a specific amount of time per week to the shelter, perhaps this may be for you. If you are interested, please contact Christa Sullivan at the shelter during open hours.
